Combining Business, Beauty and Baby Boomers Makes Sense and Cents for Franchisees

Radiance Medspa is a franchised business offering medically supervised treatments to remove hair and improve skin appearance. Businesses can be owned by a physician or by a non-physician who has a physician on staff. Radiance provides franchisees with a turn-key operation that capitalizes on advanced IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology, American’s interest in non-invasive aesthetic procedures, and a large 50-plus population with discretionary income.

Chuck Engelmann, President and CEO of Radiance Medspa, says the Radiance business model is unique in the industry in that it allows medical and non-medical investors to work together in ownership. “Our business provides a bridge between a medical practice and a spa environment, with potential for high profit,” he says.

A Radiance Medspa is designed to look and feel like a spa, providing an upscale feel for the ultimate customer experience. Clients wait in a tranquility room – away from the reception area – where they can enjoy herbal tea and listen to a waterfall. Client interaction is minimized and appointments times are adhered to by the staff. Since the main competition for this business is provided by a plastic surgeon or dermatologist, the spa-like environment truly sets Radiance Medspa apart.

Customer service is another way the Radiance experience is superior to that provided by a medical office. Radiance personnel practice the Nordstrom philosophy, where the customer is always treated well and with respect. Medspa clients will not be kept waiting like they may be at a medical office and they receive realistic information about the results they will experience so that the treatment they receive meets or exceeds their expectations. “We under-promise and over-deliver,” adds Engelmann.

DYNAMIC GROWTH POTENTIAL

According to Engelmann, Baby Boomers, that group of people born between 1946 and 1964, now compose 50% o the US population. In fact, 12,000 people turn 50 every day in the US. Baby Boomers have more discretionary income than their parents did and are primed to take advantage of the services Radiance Medspa offers.

“It’s not that people are trying to look younger,” says Engelmann. “They just want to look better. They also don’t want down time and are looking for immediate results.”

Radiance offers several types of services, all preformed by medically-trained personnel. The first service is injectables such as Botox® and Collagen®, which can reduce facial wrinkles.

Other services are made possible by IPL, which functions like a laser but isn’t. IPL can provide dramatic results in a short period of time in such areas as:

  • Hair reduction – IPL can permanently reduce hair from face, legs, underarms, etc.
  • Photo facials – IPL can decrease pore size, tighten the skin, promote collagen production and can reduce minor wrinkles
  • Light therapy can also lighten or remove discolorations such as age spots and tattoos
  • New uses for IPL which will soon be available are cellulite reduction and elimination of spider veins

Radiance also provides clinical grade chemicals peels to improve skin texture and quality.

“The results of our services make people feel better about themselves,” say Engelmann. “Our clients are people of all ages and we help both men and women make improvements to their appearances. Many people favor our non-invasive approach to clinical skin care modalities but we also have clients who use us post plastic surgery as a maintenance tool.”

This industry has dynamic growth potential, says Engelmann, as people become more familiar and comfortable with these quick and easy procedures. “The popularity of physical makeover reality shows has also made the public more aware of what is available,” adds Engelmann, “and they are very willing to undergo these so-called lunch-time procedures because they don’t need recovery time and yet get noticeable results. In fact, what we hear over and over is that people will do a double-take when viewing one of our clients after a procedure. They won’t know what has changed but they will notice a difference – that the person just looks better.”

FRANCHISEE SUPPORT

Technology is also used to keep franchisees apprised of developments in their new business. Once a Franchise is awarded, franchisees can log into a web site which will show the day-to-day progress of their business, from site selection to build-out. “It’s like having a library of the important paperwork for your business,” says Engelmann. Each franchisee also has a dedicated website to keep track of the development of their Radiance Medspa.

The Radiance Medspa turnkey program provides a library of spa plans, help with site selection, a general contractor to coordinate your build-out, and all programs from payroll to phones to alarm systems to supplies. “Everything is laid out and served up for the franchisee.” says Engelmann. “In addition, our franchise has SBA loan approval, meaning qualified people can get financial assistance.”

Marketing includes TV, radio and print ads and a franchisee can select what they would like to use for grassroots marketing their area.

There are five Radiance Medspas currently open with another 30 to open within the next four months. Radiance Medspas are located in upscale areas and can be staffed by as few as five people, including the owner. Medical procedures are always done by a licensed medical professional such as a physician, registered nurse or physician’s assistant. Training, including a week for the owner/operator and another week for clinical aspects is provided at the corporate location in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Why You Could Be Successful As A Radiance Medspa Owner

  • New technology makes procedures quick, affordable and effective
  • Cash retail medicine
  • Media attention to non-invasive skin care procedures means a more knowledgeable clientele
  • Demand outstrips current supply of providers
  • Men are having procedures at a greater rate
  • Nearly 50% o Baby Boomers are divorced and desire to “repackage” themselves for dating
  • Radiance Medspa will support you from day one and will be with you as you journey to success

“The year by year growth of the technology of the procedures and the acceptance of the procedures by a larger population creates a dynamic market just waiting for someone to come in and establish their niche in this area,” says Engelmann. “Our turnkey support coupled with our unique “Patent-Pending” business model provides everything needed to help someone become the dominant provider in their awarded market.”
