Franchise News Release: (Dec-22-1999)

DWYER GROUP NAMES KRUZEL CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER

  • New position to take trade services hi-tech.
  • E-commerce partners to be considered for the network.
  • Increased technology to offer more to Franchise owners and customers.

WACO, Texas (December 22, 1999) - The Dwyer Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: DWYR), one of the world's largest franchise providers of residential and commercial service businesses, has named Al Kruzel as Chief Information Officer, effective Nov. 1. The newly-created position will play a key role in the company's goal to increase technologies and e-commerce applications for the network.

"Technology is very important to the future of our company," said Dina Dwyer-Owens, president and CEO of The Dwyer Group. "And Al is the perfect person to focus on the vision for our company as it pertains to servicing our franchisees, customers and potential e-commerce partners in a wired society."

Kruzel has been with The Dwyer Group for three years and previously served as Controller. In that time, as the company has grown so has the need to communicate and serve the network more effectively through technology.

"We want to maintain the human touch as much as possible," Kruzel said, "but our size prohibits us from doing that and still servicing everyone the best that we can. Our new focus is to provide critical tools and data access 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

As chief information officer, Kruzel will ensure that communication and information systems run efficiently as he examines technologies that will broaden customer relationship management and partner relationship management. Kruzel envisions a time when everything from carpet cleaning to glass replacement and air conditioning repairs to plumbing emergencies can be scheduled online from The Dwyer Group.

According to Kruzel, approximately 45 percent of U.S. households have some kind of Internet access, which is a prime medium for marketing The Dwyer Group's brands. Among Kruzel's goals is to reach this market and better connect it with the network's 1,300 franchisees.

The Dwyer Group also is evaluating e-commerce partnerships with a number of online destinations that service like customer bases. Such portals will put Dwyer Group companies in touch with a whole new group of customers and will allow them to spread their brands, Kruzel said.

The Dwyer Group Inc., based in Waco, supports over 900 franchisees in the United States and nearly 400 franchisees in 23 countries. The Dwyer Group's franchise concepts include: Rainbow International® Carpet Care and Restoration Specialists, Mr. Rooter® (Drain Doctor® in the UK), Mr. Electric®, Mr. Appliance®, Glass Doctor®, Aire Serv Heating & Air Conditioning® and an associate company, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen by Worldwide. Combined, these concepts offer a broad base of residential and commercial services. The Dwyer Group's objective is to reach 2,000 locations worldwide generating over $1/2 billion in annualized system-wide sales by December 31, 2001. For more, visit www.dwyergroup.com.
