Schooley Mitchell Organ Donation Campaign Inspired by CEO's Personal Experience

Today, the United Network for Organ Sharing transplant waiting list includes the names of more than 80,000 North Americans waiting to receive an organ transplant.

This list used to include two immediate family members of Dennis Schooley, CEO of Schooley Mitchell Telecom consultants, the largest independent telecom consulting company in North America. Fortunately, the names of Schooley's loved ones were taken off the list when they received the heart and kidney transplants they were so desperately awaiting.

To help ensure that more North Americans on the organ transplant waiting list receive the transplants they need, Schooley announced today that Schooley Mitchell will launch its fourth annual Legacy of Life Campaign in support of Organ Donation Awareness Week, April 21 to 25, 2003.

The campaign, which includes broad-scale education initiatives, donor card distribution and diverse partnerships with charitable organizations, is part of Schooley Mitchell's widespread effort to increase awareness of the need for organ donors.

"Giving the gift of life is one of the most profound things we can do as human beings," Schooley said, further noting that one person's organs have the power to improve or save more than 50 lives. "Several years ago, two anonymous organ donors saved the lives of two people very near and dear to me. We want people to understand the importance of organ donation and the impact of leaving a legacy."

Since the Legacy of Life Campaign began in 2000, Schooley Mitchell has distributed more than 60,000 donor cards to potential organ donors and is committing to boosting its efforts in the future. In fact, Schooley Mitchell recently hired an Organ Donation Coordinator whose sole job is to manage the campaign. This role includes promoting the campaign among Schooley Mitchell's 150 North American franchisees to help them develop partnerships with organ donation networks across the country.

"The need for organ transplants continues to far exceed organ supply, with 15 people dying each day as a result of the shortage of transplantable organs," Schooley said. "With campaigns like ours, we can solve this problem by working together to save lives."
