Tricon's International Division Opens 11,000th Restaurant

Tricon Restaurants International (TRI), a division of Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc., announced the opening of its 11,000th restaurant. The new KFC Restaurant is located in Gateshead in the United Kingdom. TRI includes the international operations of KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell restaurants in over 100 countries and territories and has system sales of over $7.7 billion.

"Our number one goal is aggressive global expansion," said Pete Bassi, TRI President. "We've achieved two years of record-breaking new restaurant openings. KFC UK is one of our strongest, rapidly growing international markets with more than 500 restaurants. KFC UK has achieved more than five years of double-digit compound growth," added Bassi.

TRI is a significant global retailer, with KFC and Pizza Hut generating over $300 million in profits. TRI has achieved four years of strong performance in sales and development that has led to great improvements in returns.

In 2001, TRI opened 1,041 new units in international, on top of a record-breaking 929 new restaurants opened in 2000. TRI is targeting another 1,000 new restaurant openings outside the U.S. in 2002.

Bassi stated, "We clearly have the management, infrastructure, processes and resources in place to grow our international business for the long term."

KFC was the first global quick-service chicken restaurant chain to enter Britain in 1965. KFC UK is the QSR chicken category market leader in Britain with more than 500 restaurants and growing rapidly. KFC UK's business continues to grow by 15% ech year.

KFC is the world's most popular chicken restaurant chain based on units with nearly 12,000 worldwide locations. Pizza Hut is the world's largest pizza restaurant company based on units with nearly 12,000 restaurants worldwide.

In addition to the United Kingdom, TRI's other top growth markets include China, Mexico and South Korea. TRI has more than 600 restaurants in China, more than 400 in Mexico and over 450 in South Korea.

KFC is the second most recognized trademark around the globe. According to a survey conducted by the A.C. Nielsen Corp., KFC is the most famous international brand in China.

TRI was named the leading quick-service restaurant company to work for in Asia as well as the best employer overall in Thailand.
