Papa John's Names New Head of Corporate Operations

Papa John's International, Inc. announced at its annual meeting of stockholders the appointment of Michael Cortino as Senior Vice President of Corporate Operations. Cortino will head Restaurant operations, based in Louisville, Kentucky. Since joining Papa John's in November, 1999, as Vice President, Operations Services, Cortino has also served as Regional Vice President of Corporate Operations in the Louisville and Raleigh, North Carolina markets.

Cortino brings a broad scope of knowledge and experience to this position, having served for five years as Vice President of Company Operations with Church's Chicken where he was responsible for operations execution, financial performance and training and operations support services for more than 500 restaurants. Prior to his operations role at Church's, Cortino served ten years with Taco Bell where he was Operations Market Manager. Cortino also held various operations positions along with being named National Manager of Training.

As of May 22, 2000, there were 2,372 Papa John's restaurants (599 domestic company-owned, 1,736 domestic franchised and 37 international franchised) operating in 47 states, the District of Columbia and six international markets. Papa John's also owns or Franchises 206 Perfect Pizza restaurants (12 company-owned and 194 franchised) in the United Kingdom. For four years running, Papa John's has been ranked number one among national pizza chains in both quality and overall customer satisfaction in the prestigious Restaurants and Institutions' Choice in Chains survey. Papa John's was also ranked number one in customer satisfaction among all Fast Food restaurants in the 1999 American Customer Satisfaction Index survey conducted by the National Quality Research Center at the University of Michigan Business School.
