Dermacare Forms Corporate Medical Board of Directors

Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Clinics® announces the creation of a medical advisory board composed of physicians in multiple specialties throughout the country, to ensure that Dermacare further strengthens its role as the industry’s leading physician-based laser aesthetic skin-care franchisor.

 Dermacare’s Charter Board members include:

Phillip L. Barkley, M.D. ( Gainesville, Fla. ) is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. Dr. Barkley completed his bachelor’s degree in psychology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale He graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and completed a residency in Internal Medicine at Michigan State University . He is past president of the American College Health Association. Dr. Barkley is also a member of the American College of Physician Executives.

Jefferson C.Birchall, M.D. ( San Diego ) is Board Certified by the Canadian College of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Practice. He received his bachelor’s degree and M.D. from the University of Calgary, Canada, and completed his residency at Foothill Hospital in the university’s Family Medicine program. He was a staff physician with Palomar Medical Center in San Diego and is currently physician (and past medical director) of the Penn Elm Medical Group in Escondido, Calif.

Kevin B. Calhoun, M.D. ( San Diego, CA ) is Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, and is an emergency medicine physician with post graduate training in radiology and anesthesia. He received his undergraduate degree in psychobiology at UCLA, Los Angeles and his medical degree from the UCLA/Drew School of Medicine. He is currently an emergency room physician at Sharp Chula Vista Hospital in Chula Vista, Calif. He is a member of the American Medical Association, American Board of Emergency Medicine, National Medical Society and the American College of Emergency Physicians.

Jeffrey E. Epstein, MD.   ( Cherry Hill , NJ ) is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics.  He has been in private practice in Internal Medicine for nearly 20 years and was a Medical Director for AmeriHealth of New Jersey prior to joining Dermacare.  Dr. Epstein completed his undergraduate degree at Swarthmore College, his medical degree at Rutgers Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Mercy Hospital in San Diego, CA .  He is a member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

Brent G. Greenberg, M.D. ( San Diego, CA ) is a Board Certified family physician with the Penn Elm Medical Group in Escondido. Dr. Greenberg earned his BA degree in Mass Communications at UCLA and his M.D. from The Chicago Medical School. He has been a Medical Expert for the Medical Board of California, is a member of the American Academy of Family Practice and the National Association of Medical Communicators and has served as a Quality Assurance Director for Scripps Clinic. He has been published in Post Graduate Medicine, Medical Economics and Physician’s Practice Journal and was also a medical commentator for Fox News in San Diego.

Daniel P. McDonald, M.D .( Dallas , Texas ) is a Board Certified OB/GYN, who maintained a private practice for nearly a decade. He completed his undergraduate work at San Diego State University and earned his medical degree from the University of South Alabama , where he also completed his residency. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, American Association of Minimally Invasive Surgery, Society of Laparoscopic Surgeons, and multiple aesthetic societies and organizations.

Thomas Moffo, M.D. (Arrowhead, Ariz. ) is Board Certified in internal medicine and has practiced emergency medicine for over 15 years. He graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his medical training in internal medicine at the Indiana University Medical Center. He earned his bachelor of science degree from the Indiana University at Bloomington.

Abraham Sayegh, M.D. ( Scottsdale , Ariz. ) is B oard Certified in internal medicine and has practiced in the Phoenix area since 1989. He serves as medical director for Hospice of Arizona and as a team physician for the Harlem Globetrotters. He is the former chairman of the Department of Medicine at Paradise Valley Hospital in Paradise Valley, Ariz , and is Medical Director for Ridgecrest Nursing Home.

Sidney Smith, M.D. (Tri-Cities -- Richland , Kennewick and Pasco, Wash.) isBoard Certified in Dermatology and has vast experience in all aspects of cosmetic, medical and surgical dermatology. Dr. Smith served over eight years in the United States Army, including a year stationed in Baghdad, Iraq . In the Army, he was the chief of dermatology, assistant chief of dermatology and was on the teaching staff for Dermatology residents and other residents. He also has authored over 20 dermatology journal articles and chapters, and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Medical Association and Alpha Omega Alpha. 

Dr. Leslie Marcum has been appointed as an associate board member.

The physician charter members will be on the "front line" ensuring that Dermacare is constantly reviewing technology, practices, procedures and positions commensurate with Dermacare’s standards of efficacy and “safety first”.  Board members will be involved with training policies, new products, continuing education standards, national training courses, public relations opportunities, speaking engagements and speaking/training for CME credits.
