With Americans spending a projected $34.3 billion on pets in 2004, double the amount spent 10 years ago, a new luxury dog day care and boarding Franchise is making its way to California, planning more than 15 locations in San Francisco and San Jose within three years, and employing more than 175 people.

A Legacy of Love
More than a decade ago, Flammang and her husband Bion faced leaving their own dogs in a kennel during vacation.  They found that many traditional kennels lacked warmth, amenities, vet services and social activities for pets. Inspired, the couple envisioned the kind of place they would create – a fun, safe, “camp” for dogs.  At the same time, the pet care industry was booming and a new concept called “dog day care” was starting to pop up around the country.  in 1994, Heidi and Bion finished a business plan and began their search for the first Camp Bow Wow location.  Before the first location was selected, Bion died tragically in a plane crash.  Committed to realizing the dream that she and her husband nurtured, Heidi continued to take steps to launch their business.  With family and friends by her side, and her husband serving as inspiration, the first Camp Bow Wow location opened in 2000.
