Geeks on Call - Former Computer Prodigy Is Now Fort Collins' High-Tech Expert


At the tender age of eight - a time when most kids busy themselves with toys and outdoor activities - Dalton Vaughn spent countless hours staring at a computer screen. Introduced to the world of high-technology by his elementary school teacher, Vaughn immediately became enthralled with computers.

For the next several years he spent much of his free time studying computer programming, performing computer repairs and upgrades, and tinkering with intricate speech synthesizers. Little did he know that what started as a simple hobby would eventually become his life's passion, and would lead him into a successful career in the information-technology (IT) industry. Along with his aforementioned computer experience in elementary school, Dalton Vaughn's high-tech hobby also carried over into high school. During that time he studied the Pascal programming language, and enrolled in numerous advanced computer classes. Upon entering college, he decided to take the opportunity to expand his horizons and explore other avenues of interest. So, for the next few years, he turned his attention to the study of liberal arts, and earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy from the University of New Mexico. After graduation, he spent a couple of years in the business world, where he helped his employer to achieve a million dollars in retail sales. However, despite this success, Vaughn soon found himself missing the excitement of working with computers. He quickly realized that it was time to return to his first love.

Shortly thereafter, Vaughn acquired a modest job in the IT industry, for which he built and repaired computers, and provided technical support to customers via the telephone. In his spare time he enrolled in a local community college in order to sharpen his computer skills, and this in turn led to a more prestigious IT position with a large corporation. For the next four years, he handled computer security and performed network administration for this new employer. In addition, he managed a team of network technicians and supported the entire computer network for the corporate headquarters and its 13 branch offices. It is this type of high-caliber hands-on experience that made the President of Geeks On Call®, Walter Ewell, so eager to bring Vaughn into the Geeks' family. "Computers are in Dalton Vaughn's blood," said Ewell. "You can't teach that kind of passion. It's just something you're born
with."
